Dark arctic foxes are called "blue morph" and they stay completely dark all year long. Whereas the "white morph" arctic foxes we're more familiar with are white in the winter, but in the summer become dark on the top and white on the underside.
In regions like Iceland and Greenland both "white morph" or "blue morph" coexist.
And in the Bering Island subspecies (Vulpes lagopus beringensis), "blue morph" is the default and "white morph" is very rare.
